On July 28-30, 1998, the Minnesota AISES Professional
Chapter held its first telecommunication workshop for
tribes to advance policy, enhance economic development
opportunities, and improve services in their communities.
To date the number of homes with telephones in Indian
Country averages about 47%, compared with a 94% average for
the rest of the country. Attendance at the workshop included
tribal officials, economic development and tribal planning
offices, healthcare and educational leadership, and the
public and private sector. Please visit our website at to get
information on how to obtain the workshop binder and
proceedings. The website includes workshop materials and photos.

Our next workshop is scheduled for the week of February
22-25, 1999, at the Town & Country Hotel in San Diego,
California. If you or someone you know is interested in
attending, please e-mail me or call 612.424.6257.

Our workshop team will be presenting at the Annual AISES
National Conference. The presentation is titled "Building
Telecommunication Capacity in Indian Country", and is
scheduled for December 4, 1998, from 1-3:00 p.m. Panel
participants include AISES Professional members with
telecommunication engineering, marketing, and management
