Third Annual Spring Storytelling Festival at
South Mountain Community College -- Featuring Olga Loya

All events are in the Student Union Room 100 at
South Mountain Community College, 7050 South 24th Street,

La Llorona
Master storyteller Olga is a descendant of Mexican
American immigrants. She is a fluent speaker of English
and Spanish, often telling her stories in a creative
and dramatic mix of the two languages. The week-long
festival (March 30-April 3, 1998) will feature the
following events for the public. With the exception of
the Monday workshop, events are free and open to the

Monday, March 30, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Olga will conduct a workshop on the legend of La Llorona,
the crying woman. This event is a fundraiser for student
scholarships. Preregistration is $10; on site
registration is $12.  Student rate is $5. Mail
preregistration fees to Cathlyn Hart, SMCC (see address
above). Bookstar will be selling Olga's books and related
titles. Olga Loya's latest book is "Momentos Magicos:
Latin American Folktales Told in English and Spanish",
($12.76 including tax - paperback). There will be a book

Wednesday, April 1, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Come learn how to incorporate storytelling and, in
particular, bilingual storytelling into the classroom
and the curriculum.  Olga will conduct a day-long dialogue
for teachers. This event is free, but preregistration by
March 23 is required as seats are limited. For more

Thursday, April 2, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Over thirty storytellers will tell during two sessions
on this morning. Olga will open the event and tell between
the sessions. This event is free. For more information

Thursday, April 2, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Olga will perform a family oriented storytelling
concert. Bookstar will be selling Olga's books and related
titles. There will be a book signing after the concert.
