Historical Society of America and Chinese
Historical Society of Southern California invite
you to attend the Sixth Chinese American Conference
to be held at the University of San Diego (USD)
from July 9-11, 1999. The conference theme is
inspired by the State of California's
Sesquicentennial commemoration, which coincides
with 150 years of the Chinese American experience
in California. The conference will include panels
and papers on the history of the Chinese American
experience; archeological findings and historic
preservation, films, video, and literature; Chinese
Americans in different fields, improving the image,
and meeting the challenge of the new millennium.
    
Accommodations and meals for the entire conference
are available at the University of San Diego.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
    
From Gold Mountain to the New Millennium
The Sixth Chinese American Conference
    
To be held at: University of San Diego (USD),
San Diego, CA July 9 - 11, 1999
    
The sixth in this series of Chinese American
conferences will be held on the campus of the
attractively situated University of San Diego.
There are reasonable living accommodations on the
campus and all meals are included. The first day
(Friday) of the conference will consist of
registration, a plenary session, and a reception at
the Chinese Historical Museum in downtown San Diego.
Sessions will continue all day Saturday followed by
a Chinese banquet, and end early Sunday afternoon.
Bring your family and Spend some additional time in
and around the beautiful city of San Diego.
    
The Chinese Historical Society of San Diego invites
you to submit your proposals for scholarly papers,
entire panels, panel presentations, workshops, film,
video, or other relevant works for consideration at
the conference. The conference theme is inspired by
the State of California's Sesquicentennial
celebration, which happens to coincide with the 150
years of Chinese American experience in America,
and to the entry into a new millennium. With this
theme in mind, the following categories are
suggested for your consideration:
    
Regional Studies (new research on the Chinese
American experience and habitation;

Topical Studies (family and oral histories, women,
organizations, veterans, and customs);

Archaeological Finds and Historic Preservation;

Museums and Archives (panel);
Chinese Americans in Science, Medicine, Business,
Media, etc. (panel);

Films, video, music, literature;

Asian American Community, Chinese migration (panel);

Improving the Image, Education, and Community
Outreach (panel); 

Building on the Past as we Enter the New Millennium;
Challenges, Directions and Visions for the Future.
    
Please include the information requested under
Proposal Form with your one-page abstract  and a
short biographic sketch.
