Carolyn O'Bagy Davis to Present Two Talks September 1st

Carolyn O'Bagy Davis will be presenting two talks on
September 1. The first, sponsored by Human Systems
Researh, Inc., will be entitled "Hattie Cosgrove's
Mimbres Archaeology in the American Southwest." The
talk will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Mesilla Park
Recreation Center, in Las Cruces, at the corner of
Linden Avenue and Bell Street. Human Systems Research
is a nonprofit organization for archaeological research.

The second talk will be entitled "Hopi Quilting:
Stitched Traditions from an Ancient Community." The
talk, also in Las Cruces, will be sponsored by Los
Colcheros Quilt Guild on September 1 at 7:00 p.m. The
purpose of the guild is to promote the art of quilting
in the Mesilla Valley.

Ms. Davis has an extensive background in guilting in the
American west. She has written several books and
presented lectureds on quilting in Kansas, Colorado,
and Northern Arizona. Additionally, she has studied
Hattie Cosgrove and the prehistoric Mimbres paintings.
The quilts of Ida Chambers Melugin of Colorado, Hopi
quilting, and the Hattie Cosgrove materials have
resulted in museum exhibits.

Both talks are free, open to the public, and
refreshments will be served.
