Subject: Update On 501c3 Status For SWA

[ AzTeC / SWA SASIG ] :

Update on 501c3 status for Southwestern Archaeology

It has been a while since this subject was discussed.
SWA is pleased to advise you that 501c3(not-for-profit
corporation) status was filed with the Arizona
Corporation Commission (ACC) and the Internal Revenue
Service (IRS). As part of those filings, SWA filed
articles of incorporation and bylaws with the ACC and
IRS, and, published the articles of incorporation in
newspapers of record. A final ruling should be
delivered by the IRS by August, 1998.

Last year SWA raised $1384.00 in assets. These assets
were expended to pay for the SWA domain name,
commercial server space, and some went to the
publication costs and filing fees. A few hundred
dollars remain in the account.

December 31 will be the end of the tax year for SWA.
However, the Board of Directors plans to hold an
annual meeting about the time of the Pecos Conference.
Our goal is to see if we can turn SWA into a community
resource that takes on a life of its own with the
active participation of individuals from throughout
the greater southwest. We will be seeking to work with
those who have skill sets which include: financial and
organizational management; knowledge of archaeology,
anthropology and history; and, knowledge of cyberspace
and multimedia design and marketing.

If you have these competencies and are willing to
participate in concerted WORK to see SWA move from a
'two guys with a web site' concept to an institution
which acts to promote open discourse and community
involvement in historic preservation, please contact
me as soon as possible.

I hope to make arrangements to meet in Santa Fe about
the time of the Pecos Conference.

Brian Kenny
