Message #342: From: AzTeC SW Archaeology SIG To: "'Matthias Giessler'" Subject: George Gumerman To Assume The Position Date: Wed, 10 Sep 1997 20:13:24 -0700 Condensed from AAHS GLYPHS Volume 48 No. 3, September 1997 The University of Arizona's Vice President for Research has named George Gumerman, a well-known Southwestern archaeologist, as the head of the Arizona State Museum. He will assume the position in October. Dr. Gumerman comes to ASM from the Santa Fe Institute. Dr. Gumerman conducted pioneering archaeological work at Black Mesa in northern Arizona, while working at Prescott College and at Southern Illinois University. At SIU, he was Professor and Department Chair, and, Founding Director of the Center for Archaeological Investigations. He holds a B.S. from Columbia University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona Department of Anthropology. He is the author and editor of many well-known publications in southwestern archaeology, and, has conducted archaeological research in Micronesia and Mexico.
