      WAAC Annual Meeting
      27 October 1997
      Phoenix, Arizona

[Please post or distribute this announcement to anyone who might find it
useful or interesting.]

The Western Association for Art Conservation (WAAC) welcomes you to attend
a special session on rock art conservation during WAAC's 1997 Annual
Meeting. This session offers an expert overview of the most important
issues in the conservation of rock art, and will give you a deeper
understanding the challenges facing those involved in its preservation,
restoration, and analysis.

The speakers include some of the most experienced and committed specialists
in the western U.S., and their presentations will reflect not only their
own work but their years of involvement with others in this field.
Scheduled presenters include:

     Todd Bostwick
     Gerald Dawaventewa
     Claire Dean
     Ron Dorn
     Marietta Wetherill Eaton (Marietta Davenport)
     John Griswold
     Nicholas Stanley-Price

For the special rate of 30 dollars, you may register exclusively for the
rock art conservation presentations (instead of for the entire 3-day WAAC
Annual Meeting). This special registration category includes:

     * The opportunity to join a field trip to view petroglyphs in the
Phoenix area on Sunday afternoon, October 26th (you will need to supply
your own vehicle).

     * An informal reception on Sunday evening, October 26th, at Arizona
State University's Deer Valley Rock Art Center, including a tour of the
Hedgpeth Hills Petroglyph Site.

     * Presentations on rock art conservation on Monday, October 27th, in
the auditorium of the Heard Museum.

     * A wine-and-cheese reception at the Heard Museum, Monday evening,
October 27th.
