Southern Arizona Prehistory is Focus of Class

Southern Arizona's prehistory will be the subject of a 3-evening short course to be given by Sharon Urban, Public Archaeologist at the Arizona State Museum. Southern Arizona has witnessed some of the most signifigant archaeological discoveries and prehistoric cultural developments in North America. Urban will discuss the region and its inhabitants between 12,500 BC and AD 1450: Paleo-Indian big game hunters, pre-agricultural Archaic peoples, and the Hohokam. Classes will cover various aspects of prehistoric lifeways as known from archaeological evidence: hunting, gathering and agricultural practices, architecture, tool manufacture, rock art, pottery and other crafts, and ceremonial practices.
The class is being sponsored by the Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society and the Arizona State Museum. It will meet at the CESL Auditorium on the University of Arizona campus on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm, November 5, 12 and 19.

AAHS members $25, non-members $35. Pre-registration is required. Please contact Jan Bell at 520-326-6709
