Message #211: From: AzTeC SW Archaeology SIG To: "'Matthias Giessler'" Subject: 1998 Archaeology Expo Dates Date: Tue, 03 Jun 1997 11:57:03 -0700 From: Ann Howard This message is a follow-up to the message that the Arizona SHPO put out on the web last week regarding setting the dates of the 1998 Archaeology Expo in advance of the kick-off planning meeting for 1998 Arizona Archaeology Awareness Month. As you may recall, we were trying to get the Expo listed in the Arizona Office of Tourism's Calendar for March 1998 and the information was due on June 2, 1997. Thus, we were soliciting input on how you all thought the dates of March 14-15 would work out. Thank you to those who responded to our query regarding this issue. Half of the responses said that a date of March 14-15 (Sat. and Sun.) was fine, but the other half felt that a Fri. and Sat. worked best for Expo participants. Based on these responses, and in consultation with Kim Huber at the Deer Valley Rock Art Center, we decided that we should NOT change the structure (i.e., go from a Fri/Sat back to a Sat/Sun) of the Expo dates without involving the planning committee that comes together on July 21, 1997 for a kick-off meeting in this decision. Therefore, we decided NOT to post definite dates for the Expo in the Arizona Office of Tourism's Calendar for March, 1998. HOWEVER, we did get the Expo listed in the Calendar with the prefix "tba" which means "to be announced" and a phone number for contact at Arizona State Parks. So, it's listed, and if the public or the media want to find out the dates, they can call ASP and receive the days/dates (after they are decided at the July 21st meeting). Just to keep you posted, and hope to see you all at the July 21 meeting (10:00 a.m., Arizona State Parks Basement Boardroom)! Thanks for your continued support of AAAM and the Expo!
