Message #276: From: AzTeC SW Archaeology SIG To: "'Matthias Giessler'" Subject: BLM Protocol With CO SHPO = Resource Management Change Date: Thu, 24 Jul 1997 23:22:00 -0700 From: Todd McMahon Draft Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Protocol with Colorado State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Resource Management Change ! Colorado's Management of Cultural Resources May Drasticly Change! We need your comment! You can review a draft for public comment on the new Colorado State Protocol with the BLM and the Colorado SHPO. This is Colorado's protocol that was mandated by the Nationwide P.A. signed at the NCSHPO conference. All states will be compiling with this new agreement. As currently written, the protocol offords no room for the CO SHPO to make determinations of eligibility or get involved in small "routine" 106 actions. This will certainly change the way the BLM does 106 compliance and could have a negative affect especially with highly controversial projects. This will have a profound affect on the archaeological and historic resources and their management in Colorado. Please review Colorado's protocol and submit comments either by mail or e-mail at
. The protocol can be viewed at: http://www.aclin.org/other/historic/chs/index.html, the Colorado SHPO home page. Look under "News from the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation."
