Good news...the zoning case PZ-016-97 the petroglyph site on 23 ac in Gold
Canyon has been denied the requested zoning change due to housing densitiy
and because of the archaeology!! The developer, Hughes Development Corp was
not pleased. The Pinal County Board of Supervisors met today to discuss
the above issue. But our work is not over. Per Phil Hogue, p/z director,
Pinal C. is an agency of the State and needs to follow the State Historic
Preservation Act, yet no one there knows where to begin. Supervisor Sandi
Smith suggested today that we devise a reasonable list of archaeological
and historic requirements that can be followed by the County and private
developers! In my opinion, write their ordinance. I again will try to set
up a meeting with all the Pinal C. supervisors, SHPO, Beth Grindell of ASM
and Linda Mayro of Pima C in order that we can assist Pinal C. ASM and
Pima C. has offered to assist, but offer was not followed up within the
Board of Supervisors. I will keep you posted. Thanks for all your
assistance in the past as well as in the future.
