The AZ Republic Friday January 10, 1997 (page A6) and Associated Press
report that the Japanese are fitting cockroaches with electronic hi-tech
backpacks (tiny microprocessor, computers and cameras). The scientists
developing the systems say they can send remote-control pulsing signals to
the roaches making them go forward or backward, left, right, etc. The
electronic backpacks weigh one tenth of an ounce. Possible uses of these
teenage ninja mutant roaches include sending critters through rubble to look
for disaster victims, and, slipping under doors on spy surveillance
missions......and.... ??.
