On April 25-27, the New Mexico Archaeological Council will cross the

border for a spring field trip to the Casas Grandes area of Chihuahua.

The "basic" package will include visits to the main site of Casas

Grandes (Paquime), made famous by Charles Di Peso's excavations, to the

pottery-making village of Mata Ortiz, and to a pre- revolutionary

hacienda. An extended version of the trip (beginning April 24) will

include a visit to one or more sites in the Sierra Madre. The trip will

be led by NMAC president Dave Phillips, who has done field and

collections research on the Casas Grandes culture. Trip participants

will provide their own transportation and lodging, but those who sign up

will be provided with an information packet including a map, when and

where to meet the rest of the trip, phone numbers for motel

reservations, how to get Mexican insurance, etc. NMAC will also try to

set up car pooling where needed. The trip is free. NMAC membership is

required, but you can join for one year for $20 and receive full

benefits of membership. For more information on the trip, please email

Dave Phillips at Dogoszhi@aol.com or dap@unm.edu
