GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE UNDERGRADUATE FIELD SCHOOL IN ANASAZI / PUEBLO
ARCHAEOLOGY SUMMER 1997

DATES:  Choice of:
May 18 through May 29
June 1 through June 12
June 15 through June 26

CREDIT:  4 semester hours in ASB231, a natural science lab course

COST:  $321 covers tuition, fees, use of site and equipment. (Maricopa
County, AZ residents pay $221).  Participants provide own food, lodging,
and transportation.

PARTICIPATION:  No previous experience or coursework required.  This is
an introductory dig for undergraduates or other interested individuals. 
All participants MUST be high school graduates or over 17 years of age. 
The course may also be taken on a "Pass/No Credit" basis.

LOCATION:  Mitchell Springs, outside Cortez, Colorado, in the Four
Corners area (southwest Colorado).

DETAILS:  Participants stay in motels, RV parks, and campgrounds.  The
area under  excavation is a Pueblo II - Pueblo III site.  Ten-hour days
include eight hours on site  and two hours of lecture/visits to other
sites.

APPLICATIONS:  Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served
basis.  Enrollment is limited to 24 students per session, with two
faculty in attendance at all times.

FACULTY:  Linda W. Smith is a Physical Anthropologist with a Ph.D. from
Arizona
State University.  Don Dove is an archaeologist whose M.A. is also from
ASU.  He has received awards from both the state of Arizona and the state
of Colorado for his contributions to historic preservation.
