Message #318: From: AzTeC SW Archaeology SIG To: "'Matthias Giessler'" Subject: Folklorico de Juan Soldado Date: Mon, 11 Aug 1997 17:37:27 -0700 From: Jim Griffith Re: Folklorico Popular de Frontera Thanks a lot for posting that item on Mexican Folk Saints. It has been copied and is in my file. There's a longish article on Juan Soldado (I call him a "Victim Intercessor") in "A Shared Space" (Logan: Utah State U. Press, 1995), and the whole borderlands folk saint scene is the planned subject of a book I've been working on slowly, waiting for my retirement to really get going in the field. Again, thanks for the post. And when the jargon/plain language lines are drawn, I'll be there with the antijargonistas. [ Rest assured, as victims in need of an strong intercessor, archaeologists will invoke the name of 'Juan Soldado' wherever we encounter la hegemonia de las jargonistas -- SASIG Ed. :-) ]
