Thanks a lot for posting that item on Mexican Folk Saints. It has been
copied and is in my file. There's a longish article on Juan
Soldado (I call him a "Victim Intercessor") in "A Shared Space" (Logan:
Utah State U. Press, 1995), and the whole borderlands folk saint scene
is the planned subject of a book I've been working on slowly, waiting
for my retirement to really get going in the field. Again, thanks for
the post. And when the jargon/plain language lines are drawn, I'll be
there with the antijargonistas.

archaeologists will invoke the name of 'Juan Soldado' wherever we
