Message #313: From: AzTeC SW Archaeology SIG To: "'Matthias Giessler'" Subject: Jim Hill Passes Date: Sun, 10 Aug 1997 13:03:39 -0700 From: Andrew L Christenson On Tuesday I received the following from Joan Silk of the Department of Anthropology at UCLA - "This week begins with very sad news. Jim Hill died on Saturday morning, the end of a long and very courageous battle with cancer. Jim has had a long and distinguished career at UCLA, and was deeply committed to the practice of Anthropology as a holistic discipline. His friends, colleagues, and students will miss his calm patience, gentle humor, clear insight, and great sense of fairness and integrity. A memorial service for Jim will be held on Monday, August 11, at 4:30 pm in the West Alumni Center on the UCLA campus... In lieu of flowers, Jim's family has requested that donations be made to the James N. Hill Fellowship for Undergraduate Research in Anthropology. Checks should be made out to the UCLA Foundation. Please write JNH on the memo line and send checks to Jeanne Ladner (Dept. of Anthropology, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA 90095)"
