Two months ago an artifact was stolen from Cathy Kerns in Kansas City. The
piece is Aleut Indian in origin, pre-Columbian. It's described as a
totempole, carved from walrus tusk ivory, approximately 5 1/2 inches high,
on a seperate carved ivory base. The base is approx. 1/8 inch high and 1
inch square. There are 7 or 8 masks total on the piece and the mask below it
makes the body for the mask above it. One of the masks looks like the face
of a frog. Two of the masks have very tiny obsidian chip eyes, about the
diameter of a pencil lead. The pole is about the diameter of a pencil. There
is a small ivory pin that attaches the pole to it's base. This was an Aleut
grave artifact and ownership is restricted by law. PLEASE help us find this
piece. It's been in our family for generations and was passed down to us by
a great grandmother who was pure Aleut that married into our family during
the Alaskan gold rush. Our entire family is heartbroken over this. Not just
because it's a piece of history but it's a piece of personal FAMILY history.
It has a very special spiritual link to our ancestors. There is a reward
for it's recovery. Please send all replies to:
