Beginning in the Fall of 1996 a new journal, tentatively named Surface
Collections, devoted to giving some of the lesser heard voices of
archaeology, the field technicians and undergraduates, a chance to be
published. The journal will begin in November as a bi-monthly journal
containing materials on all sub-fields of archaeology. The journal will be
in an electronic format, distributed via email. This will allow a low cost
of production (which is good for me since I am the one paying for this
puppy). This will make the journal subscriptions FREE, at least for a
while. Though I want to give those less likely to be published elsewhere a
chance to publish, I will take and include as many papers as possible, from
anyone, not just undergrads and field techs. If necessary, and possible, I
will add extra issues to be able to get all the papers in. Also, as a
service to both employers/schools and techs/students I will post job related
and academic related materials when possible. These can include, but are
not restricted to, position openings, volunteer digs, and field school
announcements.
