Subject: How to Contact your Forest Service Archeologist

Several people have looked at the SWA E-mail List , only
to find their favorite Southwest forest archeologist missing. Sorry, not
everyone knows of the SWA web site, and some may choose not to participate.
If you really need connectivity to the Forest Service Archeologist, try
example # 1 below, or show the archeologist the attached message prepared by
Smoke Pfeiffer, and be sure to tell them about the SWA web page and the
SASIG E-mail server.

SWA is trying to connect the Southwest by lowering institutional barriers and
providing appropriate archaeological information to the public and to
professionals.

Thanks
BK

INTERNET HELP :There are basically 3 ways FS employees typically use the
internet. Here's what to do to use internet on the DG.

1. RECEIVE AN E-MAIL MESSAGE FROM SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE FS
Assuming that your DG ID is F.LNAME and you're on the B system, anyone with
internet access world-wide can send you messages or documents by sending to:

    /s=f.lname/ou1=w01b@mhs-fswa.attmail.com

The case (capitalized or not) is unimportant. Just substitute your DG ID
and System into the above address. The message will arrive in your inbox
and you can REPLY by using 3. REPLY. Be aware that an old format still
works, but someday will not. An example of the old format for me is:
fswa/s=t.martin/ou=w01b@mhs.attmail.com

2. SEND AN E-MAIL MESSAGE TO SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE FS
If someone's internet address is F.LNAME@UVA.EDU, you may send a message or
file to the person at:

Internet!uva.edu!f.lname@att:x400

Note that you must reverse the address.

As another example, my Prodigy name is NMVV00a and my Prodigy Internet
address is NMVV00a@Prodigy.com. You may send me a message at:

  Internet!Prodigy.com!nmvv00a@att:x400

3. USE THE WORLD WIDE WEB TO CONNECT INTO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS
You may log into the White House, Congress, Department or even into the
Forest Service Home Page using the WWW. At these Home Pages, organizations
make available information and documents of general interest to the public
which you may send to your inbox. It could be speeches, bills, reports,
studies, news, general information, or how-to instructions. Be aware that
the x400 connection is often down, so if you can't get into Sunsite, try
again later. Also, the internet is very slow in the afternoon. Best to
login in the morning. To use WWW, you must enter IS, log into WWW, and then
use the LYNX browser.

A. Enter into IS. Some of us do this by using the F4 function key. If IS
is not a defined Function Key for your profile, you may press , 7
 {User Applications}, IS {Program Name}, and 1 {standard} to
log into IS.

B. Log into WWW by entering {1. Access Information}, 4
{Personal}, IS_CEO {Drawer Name}, Import_export {Folder Name}, and
WWW . This will log you into Sunsite at the Univ. of North Carolina.

C. Log into the LYNX Browser by hitting , lynx (at login), and
VT100 (at Term=). You will be in Sunsite's Home Page using the Lynx
Browser.

D. Using the LYNX WWW Browser.
After logging into the Lynx WWW Browser, use the following commands to
perform the indicated operations.

Operation Command

                                       highlight then
                                       use up-down arrow to

                                       most Home Pages offer options
