[ Electronic Presentation/Abstract and Conference Registration forms are 
attached.  Please note that SWA has offered to publish the 9th Mogollon 
Conference volume in HTML format on the SWA website.  Unlike a printed 
volume, an interactive publication does not need to be arranged in a linear 
fashion.  Electronic publication might allow more flexibility in 
presentation graphics and text generation.  Dr. Bettison will discuss this

Western New Mexico University Museum will host the 9th Mogollon Archaeology 
Conference on October 3-5, 1996 in Silver City, New Mexico.  Two full days 
of papers will be presented in single sessions on Friday and Saturday.

How to Get to Silver City --
For conference attendees flying into El Paso International Airport, two 
shuttle services are available to Silver City.  Las Cruces Shuttle Service 
can be reached at (800) 288-1784 and the Silver City Stage Lines at 
(800)522-0162.  Prices for door-to-door service range between $52.00 to 
$58.00.  We recommend that you call the shuttle services for their schedules 
prior to making any flight arrangements.  Each shuttle service requires 24 
hour advance reservations.  For conference attendees flying into Albuquerque 
International Airport, plane service to Silver City may still be offered by 
Mesa Airlines in October. Please call them at (800)637-2247 for 
information/reservations.  Public transportation to and from the Grant 
Gounty Airport is not available.  Conference attendees flying into Tucson 
International Airport will have to arrange their own transportation to 
Silver City.  Silver City does not have public transportation.

Registration --
The registration fee for the conference is $15.00 if you pre-register before 
September 10.  We encourage you to pre-register and to indicate the various 
activities in which you wish to participate by using the enclosed 
registration form.  Your Mogollon Archaeology Conference packets can be 
picked up at the Reception on Thursday, October 3, between 5:30 and 7:00 
P.M., or on the morning of  Friday, October 4 starting at 7:30 A.M. at Light 
Hall Auditorium.  You may also register during the evening reception on 
Thursday, October 3, or at Light Hall Auditorium on Friday, October 4 
between 7:30 and 10:00 A.M. You must register for the Friday evening banquet 
by 10:00 A.M. on Friday.  The registration fee after September 10 is $18.00.

Lodging --
The Holiday Motor Hotel on Highway 180 is offering a block of rooms to 
conference attendees at the special rate of $41.00 (tax included) for a room 
with one double bed and $47.00 (tax included) for a room with two double 
beds.  The cut-off date for this rate is September 14.  Please make 
reservations with the Holiday Motor Hotel directly at (505)538-3711 or 
(800)828-8291.  The Holiday Motor Hotel recently refurbished its rooms and 
swimming pool.  Michael's Restaurant, located at the hotel, serves breakfast 
beginning at 6:00 A.M. Monday - Saturday, 7:00 A.M. on Sunday, and will be 
the site of the Friday evening banquet.  Please remember that Silver City 
does not have any public transportation.

Papers --
Papers on current research in the Mogollon area will be presented on Friday, 
October 4, from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Saturday, October 5, from 8:30 
A.M. to 5:00 P.M.  Both days will be held in Light Hall Auditorium on the 
campus of Western New Mexico University, College Avenue (see attached map). 
Papers will be limited to 15 minutes.  Slide projectors, overheads, and 
video equipment will be available.  Please use the form enclosed to submit a 
title, abstract, and audio-visual requirements by September 1, 1996.  Two 
mini-symposia time slots are available.  Symposia are limited to 4 to 6 
papers.  Each paper is limited to 15 minutes.  Symposia organizers must 
submit paper titles and abstracts together in the order of presentation by 
September 1.

Publication of Papers --
The topic of publishing the conference papers will be discussed during the 
conference.  At the moment, the cost of publishing the papers appears to be 
prohibitive, but alternatives are being examined.  One suggestion is put all 
submitted papers on computer disk and make the papers available in an 
electronic format.  If you, your company, or institution would like to

Parking --
Parking for Light Hall Auditorium is available on College Avenue and within 
the campus itself.  Parking on-campus will be limited on Friday due to 
classes and on-going construction (see map).  Please pick up a visitor's 
parking sticker during registration if you plan to use on-campus parking. 
 Vehicles without the parking stickers are subject to a fine.

Special Events/Food and Entertainment --
Reception: Conference registrants are invited to a reception at Western New 
Mexico University Museum on Thursday evening, October 3, from 5:30 - 7:00 
P.M.  Registration materials will be available for pickup at that time. 
 During the reception local author and WNMU Assistant Professor Sharman Apt 
Russell will sign copies of her book When the Land was Young: Reflections on 
American Archaeology.  The book will be available for purchase at the 
University Museum Shop during the reception.

Banquet --
A banquet will be held for conference registrants on Friday, October 4 at 
the Holiday Motor Hotel on Highway 180.  Prior to the banquet a no-host cash 
bar reception with appetizers will held from 6:00-7:00 P.M.  The banquet, an 
Italian buffet, will be held at 7:00 P.M.  Total cost of the banquet is 
$12.00.   Following the banquet, Carolyn O'Bagy Davis, author of Treasured 
Earth: Hattie Cosgrove's Mimbres Archaeology in the American Southwest, will 
present a lecture on Hattie Cosgrove's career.

Sunday, October 6, Tours --
On the registration form please indicate if you have interest in attending 
any of the tours listed.  This is a survey only, actual tour 
information/availability will be provided during registration on October 3 
and October 4.  If you wish to lead one of the tours listed or create

Coffee/Donuts/Cookies --
Part of your registration fee will be used to provide coffee, decaffinated 
coffee, hot tea, donuts, and muffins during the morning session.  Coffee, 
tea, and cookies will be available during the afternoon sessions.  Light 
Hall also has snack and soda machines.

Vendors --
Book vendors only will be permitted to set up on campus in the University 
Museum.  Vendor setup can occur during the Thursday evening reception, 
although sales can not begin until Friday morning.  Vendor displays must be 
removed by 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 5.  Please contact Cynthia
