We
invite you to the 2007 Pecos Conference to be held at Pecos National
Historical Park, New Mexico, August 9-12, 2007 This year the conference
is sponsored by Pecos National Historical Park, with invaluable
assistance from the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture/Laboratory
of Anthropology; Intermountain Regional Office/Santa Fe (National
Park Service); Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District (US Forest Service);
State Historic Preservation Division (Office of Cultural Affairs-New
Mexico); and the School for Advanced Research.

Our
purpose in hosting this year's conference is to provide an opportunity
for archaeologists to identify and discuss the challenges of southwestern
archaeology in an informal setting.
This
year's Conference theme is Galisteo Basin Archeology. In addition
to the traditional Pecos Conference presentations and activities,
this years Conference will highlight current research and
preservation efforts in the Galisteo
Basin and northern Rio Grande. Two mini-symposia, a Friday
evening lecture, and Sunday tours to several Galisteo Basin archeological
sites will focus on the Galisteo. Register now and join us in
exploring the Basins many mysteries!
Park
Admission: If you have not pre-registered you must register
at the conference site or at the Thursday
evening reception before going to other destinations in the
park. Your conference registration fee covers the park's entrance
fee of $3/person for those over 15 years of age. We look forward
to seeing you at the Visitor Center and on the park trail. The
name tag provided in your registration packet is required to gain
free access to the Visitor Center, main ruins complex, and Pecos
Conference site.
Conference
Site Access: Open Hours, 6am-12midnight; Gates Closed, 12
midnight- 6am.
Conference
Camping: Camping will again be offered at the conference site
at Pecos NHP. We will open the camp site at 3:00pm on Thursday,
August 9th. Camp sites are to be vacated by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday,
August 12. Camp sites will be available on a first-come, first-served
basis to registered participants. Camping will be primitive. There
are no shower facilities, parking pads, grills, tables, etc.,
in the campground. Trenching around tents and other ground disturbance

Parking:
Parking areas at the conference site are designated for cars/trucks
of those camping, motor homes and vehicles with trailers, daytime
attendance only, handicapped, vendors, overflow, and emergency
vehicles. The campsite layout and parking areas are on a map to
be included in your registration packet.
Pets:
Pets are discouraged. Dogs must be on a leash/lead of 6 feet or
less or in an enclosure, and not left unattended. Same goes for
cats.
Park
Specifics: There is no back country access or hiking within
the park. The Pecos River within the park boundaries is also closed.
Pecos River sections adjacent to the park are privately owned.
Usually, hiking and river access is available on nearby US Forest
Service (fees may apply) and NM State Game and Fish (no fees)
lands; further information is available through the USFS Pecos-Las
Vegas District Office, 505/757-6121, in the Village of Pecos,
NM 63, just south of the NM63-NM50 intersection.
