Day 1 ...

Friday, August 12

The conference will be held at the Overlook Park in the town of White Rock. Signs will be posted directing attendees to the conference site and directional maps will also be available at the reception. Two large, circus-type tents will be the venues for field reports and symposiums. Another smaller tent will host the poster sessions and vendors.

The conference will begin at 9:00 am with a morning invocation by Martin Aguilar, San Ildefonso, followed by opening remarks from Darlene Koontz, Superintendent, Bandelier National Monument, Carolyn Mangeng, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Gilbert Zepeda, Santa Fe National Forest.

Field Reports

Reports on current fieldwork are scheduled to begin at 9:30 am. In keeping with the tradition of the Pecos Conference, we are asking that informal presentations of 10 minutes are encouraged. We also suggest that presentations are delivered rather than read. There will be no provisions for slide or power-point presentations. For additional information, please contact Cynthia Herhahn at (505) 672-3861 ext. 547.

Symposium I

Symposium I will begin Friday morning at 9:30 am in the second tent.
Organizer: Brad Vierra, Los Alamos National Laboratory, (505) 665-8014.
Title: New Research on the Pajarito Plateau

Poster Sessions

Research Posters are displayed on site. Take notes and confer in person with the research teams and scholars. If you miss an opportunity to chat, the presenters often note contact information on their posters so you can hook-up with them after the conference ends.

Evening Activities

After the first day of papers, the County of Los Alamos invites all Pecos Conference attendees to join the community for a night of music and dancing at Ashley Pond in the center of Los Alamos within another National Historic Landmark District. Music will be Rodney Hayden beginning at 7:00 pm.

The Pecos Conference coincides with the Los Alamos County Fair and all conference goers are invited to attend all country fair activities. There is no charge for the entertainment.
